Unsuccessful re-appointment to senior role was "tipping point" in psych injury

An employer has failed to prove an employee's unsuccessful application for a senior role was the sole cause of his psychological injury, with a commission finding 24 other events also contributed to his condition.

The teacher and senior wellbeing coordinator ceased working at the All Saints College in Maitland, NSW in January 2021 due to his declining mental health, and has not worked since.

He subsequently submitted a claim for weekly and lump sum compensation, as well as medical expenses.

According to the employee, after participating in an HR investigation in April 2019 he fell "out of favour" with executive staff members, and was thereafter continually subjected to workplace bullying, exclusion, and a lack of recognition, which led to the development of a psychological injury and a total incapacity for work...
