Turnover woes prompt three new talent strategies

A hospitality employer experiencing "unacceptable" turnover is now "thinking differently" about how to bridge its talent gap, its interim people leader says.

Food service provider Compass Group "has always had pressures around attraction", says general manager of people and talent Bronwyn Carman, but "external headwinds" including the pandemic and record-low unemployment have intensified them.

She notes that in the hospitality industry, there's a perception that turnover rates around 30–40% are "acceptable".

"However, you then have what you call unacceptable turnover, and so Compass has experienced unacceptable turnover as a consequence of those external headwinds..."
