The two types of workplace 'voice' and their impacts

'Organisational voice' is linked to an increase in innovative behaviours but it can also increase employee burnout, new research shows.

'Employee-focused voice', however, can act as a mitigating factor to the burnout side effect and encourage participation, according to the study, led by Professor Helen Shipton from Nottingham Business School in the UK.

The researchers define 'employee-focused voice' as an employee's ability to "express opinions, concerns and suggestions that advance employee interests and help them to feel heard".
