The survey question employers can't hide from

At an organisation recently recognised as a 'best place to work', three specific focus areas have helped ensure nearly 90% of employees say their direct manager is a great leader.

Technology company Hipages came second in this year's Best Places to Work list, for the second year in a row in the 100-plus employees category.

Hipages achieved an above-90% score in most of this year's categories, with 96% employees valuing its inclusive culture, the same proportion saying they had a welcoming onboarding experience, and 94% saying they feel encouraged to bring forward new ideas.

But the scores that chief people and culture officer Jodette Cleary are most proud of relate to its leadership. Asked 'would you consider your direct manager to be a great leader?', 89% of employees agreed, up from 83% last year and low 70s four years ago, when the company decided it "can do better"...
