Supervisor "stayed silent" about sexual harassment, dismissal fair

A supervisor who referred to workers as "dumb c-nts" and failed to report a subordinate's harassment and excessive "farting" in the office has failed to prove his dismissal was unfair.

Jetstar Airways sacked the licensed aircraft maintenance engineer and shift supervisor in December 2021, after an investigation found he'd breached its 'standards of conduct' policy numerous times, including by:

  • publicly mocking a worker's maintenance error;
  • referring to two colleagues and a subordinate as "dumb c-nts" on separate occasions;
  • saying in front of others that Fairfield Council residents were spreading COVID-19 because they pretended they couldn't speak English and didn't follow health orders; and
  • referring to a worker as "the Bali Bomber"...
