Social media "criticism" wasn't work-related; manager loses psych claim

A manager has claimed he suffered a psychological injury after a social media "debate" made him think it would be "impossible" to avoid conflict at work.

But while NSW Personal Injury Commission Member John Turner accepted the manager's adjustment disorder arose from the Facebook exchange, he found the injury did "not have its origin in anything that occurred in the workplace or as a result of the [manager's] employment".

In February last year, the Dendy Cinemas Newtown duty manager posted publicly on Facebook that he had taken his brother to see comedian Dave Chapelle.

Shortly later, a Facebook friend – also a former colleague – commented on the manager's post with words to the effect of, "I hope all your LGBTQI friends and people of colour see this and cringe because this is absolutely disgusting"...
