'Relatability' the wrong way to go about ensuring culture fit

Far too many organisations are still making hiring decisions based on 'would I like to have a beer with this person?' when this is an ineffective way to determine culture fit, according to a talent advisor.

The 'beer test' is "a little bit of euphemism for 'do I like this person and do I relate to them' – the relatability test", Invisible Partners founder Sarah Piper tells HR Daily.

"But this is not 'culture fit', this is carbon-copy hiring," she says.

Instead, "meaningful cultural pillars need to be identified to support alignment in important ways, not superficial ones", which include whether employees are likely to be friends outside of work...
