Promotion of 'bully' after years of conflict led to psych injury

An employee has won compensation for a psychological injury he suffered after a colleague, with whom he'd been embroiled in conflict for years, was promoted and threatened to "go after" him.

NSW Personal Injury Commission Member Christopher Wood said the "impact of that promotion had a special context after years of poor interaction between the men".

And the "straw that broke the camel's back" for the injured employee, who had worked as a team leader for Fresh Food Management Services for nearly four decades, was his genuine fear for his future now that the colleague was his superior.

The employee had sought workers' compensation for an adjustment disorder with anxiety, which he claimed was caused by the colleague's bullying and harassment over a five-year period...
