Privacy deficiencies during recruitment provide "fertile grounds" for legal action

A candidate who willingly gives information about themselves when applying for a job can still have "really fertile grounds for complaints, and for legal response" if they become disaffected down the track, a workplace compliance expert warns.

Certex International founder and MD Dianne Gibert notes that employers hold an increasing amount of information about individuals, much of which is "very personal and quite sensitive".

But even though privacy laws are nothing new, "there are still many who don't fully understand the intricacies, or even the basics". Some might meet a minimum standard, but lack respect for the individual and their personal data, she tells HR Daily...
