Menopause awareness programs face key hurdle

One of the main hurdles to making workplaces more menopause-friendly is getting men involved in the training and conversations, says a mental health manager.

Speaking as a panellist at a recent Parity Consulting briefing on the topic, Clayton Utz national mental health manager Emma Howard says her firm started conversations around menopause in 2019, and since then, "we've done quite a bit".

This includes running three firm-wide workshops on menopause (including two for all partners and employees); running menopause sessions on "supportive conversations" for HR managers and advisors; adding several accommodations in its workplace reasonable adjustments policy and its flexibility policy; developing a women's health page; and providing more resources for male partners and employees, in the form of fact sheets and conversational guides...
