"Mean girl cabals" and "nastiness" contributed to employee's psych injury

An employee has won compensation for a psychological injury after a commission accepted she had been treated with hostility by workplace "factions" and criticised in "reply all" emails.

The former Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council employee claimed she had been exposed to psychological stressors – which escalated after the amalgamation of the councils – resulting in an ongoing incapacity for work.

In seeking workers' compensation for an adjustment disorder, she told the NSW Personal Injury Commission that following the 2016 merger she was subjected to ongoing bullying, marginalisation and isolation by "mean girl cabals" and staff at the Gundagai office.

She said the staff treated her with suspicion when she visited the Gundagai office, and she had become aware colleagues thought she was a "spy" who reported information to the general manager...
