Many employers unaware of psychosocial risk obligations

Employers now have "a lot" to do in complying with recent legislation changes, but one particular obligation is falling by the wayside, according to a workplace lawyer.

Safe Work Australia amended the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Regulations earlier this year to include a positive duty to minimise psychosocial hazards so far as is reasonably practicable, Henry William Lawyers partner Lisa Berton tells HR Daily, with an accompanying model code of practice to help guide employers.

In October, NSW amended its Regulations to the same effect, while Queensland and Victoria are in the process of updating theirs.

Yet many organisations currently impacted by the changes still "don't really understand [their] legal obligations", Berton notes...
