The more stigma around mental health declines, the more employee expectations rise, according to an expert who says leaders will need ongoing help to meet them.
Employees' expectations around health and wellbeing are much higher now than they were a few years ago, says Sue Lowe, head of health, wellbeing and engagement at Heritage Bank.
"The more that we reduce the stigma and people feel more comfortable around talking about their wellbeing, the higher their expectations actually get," she told the recent Unmind conference.
As a result, Heritage Bank has made wellbeing a "very top layer" priority, she says. "Over the past few years, we've increased our focus greatly on mental health and wellbeing" and board and executive meetings often involve "robust discussions" around whether the organisation is doing enough to support its people...
