Inside an "aggressive" global headhunting campaign

An employer has overcome local skills shortages and achieved an ambitious hiring target, using market-leading data analysis and talent mapping strategies.

The organisation needed 150 white-collar construction specialists for new infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand, and realised a "post and pray" recruitment approach wouldn't cut it, says James Freer, ANZ head of RPO at Randstad Sourceright, which ran the campaign.

Meeting the target required sophisticated data analysis and talent intelligence reporting to inform decisions around who to approach, and how, he tells HR Daily. The specialised nature of the roles, local scarcity, and diversity targets called for a global approach – which meant factoring different visa requirements, role titles, and remuneration expectations into the process.

Client services manager Sarah Williams adds that hiring as many women as possible was a big focus for the organisation. Noting the scarcity of suitable talent on local shores, her team started looking at the percentage of female talent, including expats who might be ready to return, working on large construction projects globally...
