HR policies should reflect "always evolving" gender ideas

Given that ideas surrounding gender are "always evolving", it's important to transition those ideas into policies and practices, says the people leader at an award-winning LGBT-inclusive employer.

"It's not good enough just to think about it, we actually have to embed through those two avenues and we need to continually mature our thought processes," The Star chief people and performance officer Paula Hammond tells HR Daily.

"We need to create that inclusive work environment for those that don't identify with societal gender norms, and I think that's going to ensure that we focus on the dignity of our gender-diverse team members."

Working with all areas of the organisation to provide support for transgender and gender non-conforming employees, Hammond says The Star has introduced a gender affirmation policy that supports employees seeking name changes, provides five days of gender affirmation leave, gender neutral bathrooms, and the ability to choose a uniform that best suits individuals' gender expression...
