HR manager dismissed casual who never "officially" started

An HR manager has failed to convince the Fair Work Commission that he couldn't have sacked a casual worker, who refused to attend an unpaid training session, as she never "officially" started in her role.

Deputy President Thomas Roberts found several factors indicated City Perfume Retail and the worker were in an employment relationship, "albeit one of relatively short duration", at the time of her dismissal.

In April this year, the HR manager wrote to the worker, who had interviewed for a fragrance brand ambassador position, to congratulate her on "being successful" and say onboarding information would be forthcoming...
