High-performance workplace embarks on 'rest and recovery' experiment

An employer is experimenting with the athletic concept of 'rest and recovery', to see how it might improve performance levels and reduce burnout risks.

Accolade Wines chief people and communications officer Anjanette Murfet says given the science and success behind rest and recovery practices for athletes, and as a keen runner herself, she is eager to see how this might apply in the corporate sphere.

"We are seeing people feeling fatigued, burnt out and not being able to manage work-life balance. And so, we started to think about... what we could do in terms of the programs of work to support them and support the aim of this high-performance culture that we want to create at Accolade," she tells HR Daily.

"From a data point of view, through our engagement surveys, this is one of the things that our people consistently tell us that they struggle with – this work-life balance concept; the ability to be able to switch off..."
