'Difficult to imagine a more serious case of social media misuse': employer

An employee who live-streamed her participation in an anti-lockdown protest has failed to convince a commission that her dismissal was harsh because several mitigating factors "clouded" her judgement.

In unfair dismissal proceedings, the NSW Ambulance paramedic told State Industrial Relations Commissioner Damian Sloan that her actions should be seen as "isolated" and an "error of judgement", rather than evidence that she was unable to perform her duties.

The Commission heard that in July 2021, during a COVID-19 lockdown, the employee took part in a Sydney CBD protest, despite being directed to self-isolate for 14 days after she was exposed to a positive COVID case...
