"Cultural load" placing unfair toll on diverse employees

Culturally diverse employees are bearing too much of the "load" in improving workplace inclusion, to an extent that mirrors "victim blaming", a DEI leader says.

This "cultural load" – where employees take on the brunt of educating others about DEI matters – is often "invisible", and it can be an "unfair toll", says Clayton Utz workplace relations partner and CU Momentum committee member Cilla Robinson.

"It is tough when you are a part of a minority group, and you feel like you're essentially that artificial spokesperson for that group for everybody. You're constantly having to champion, and champion people doing the right thing," she tells HR Daily...
