Chief mental health officers: fad or future?

Adding a mental health officer to an organisation's c-suite is a fast and effective path to integrating wellbeing initiatives and building a psychologically safe environment, a psychologist says.

Still a developing phenomenon, the current standard a CMHO is held to is as an "in-house expert in the field of mental health and wellbeing", says The Positivity Institute founder Dr Suzy Green.

Critically, a CMHO bridges the gap between an individual's responsibility to protect their mental health in the workplace and that of the employer to create a psychologically safe working environment, she tells HR Daily.

And compared to other c-suite roles, Green says a CMHO is well-positioned to integrate wellbeing and mental health initiatives into other departments of an organisation...
