Bespoke leadership program achieves unanimous approval rating

A health and community services organisation whose busy leaders struggle to "down tools" for development has achieved a 100% approval rating on a program designed for new and emerging leaders.

Resulting from a partnership between UnitingCare Queensland's (UCQ) leadership and capability development team and HFL leadership, the program was designed for the employer's frontline leaders, and for high-potential employees with leadership aspirations.

UCQ wanted to get new leaders, most of whom hadn't had any exposure to leadership content or training, "up to speed quickly across a broad range of leadership topics", Catarina Rogers, UCQ's senior organisational development specialist, people and culture, tells HR Daily.

It also had to be context-specific; as relevant, and as "real" as possible. The difficulty was that because UCQ's 17,000 employees are spread across more than 460 locations and a range of different services, there was a "real mix" of environments. Some leaders were overseeing a team of six-to-10 people, others had a team of 200, so ensuring the content would be relevant and meaningful whatever the scenario posed a challenge...
