Shore up DEI gains, or prepare for talent to go elsewhere

"Industry rumblings" that suggest DEI initiatives could face the axe during an economic downturn mean it's time to shore them up, according to an expert who says continued progress isn't just a "nice" idea, it's a business imperative.

Gartner senior principal, advisory, Jasleen Kaur says that while many organisations have increased their commitment to DEI over the past two years, financial uncertainty might test their resolve.

"[W]hen we tighten our belts, we lose sight of the long-term work, the long-term benefits, the long-term initiatives. And DEI technically is a long-term initiative. It's not something where you can see ROI within a few days or a few months. Because we're looking at culture change, behaviour change, it's going to take time."...
