"Seismic shift" needed to engage disability workforce

One in two Australian managers and HR professionals have never hired or worked with a person with a disability, new research shows.

This is despite 2.1 million Australians with disability being of working age, and less than half (47.8%) being employed, according to a study by disability employment social enterprise Jigsaw.

Sydney-based HR practitioners are nearly twice as likely as their Melbourne-based counterparts to say they have never hired or worked with someone with a disability (72% compared to 37%).

And the survey of more than 500 managers and HR professionals found the overwhelming majority (79%) of employers believe that job-ready people with a disability will help address worker shortages...
