Salary-related decisions a "balancing act"; employers turning to perks over pay rises

Salary increases are becoming less about retention and more about individual or organisational performance, with 70% of employers using benefits to enhance their remuneration packages, new research shows.

According to the research by recruitment group Robert Half, one in five (20%) employers say pay rises will be solely based on tenure, while 22% say they will be based on a combination of tenure and performance.

Nearly three-quarters of employers, however, plan to increase their remuneration packages by offering such benefits as flexible work schedules (60%), mental health programs (55%) and remote work options (52%).
