Remote work support "waning"; employers want more office time

The novelty of working from home is already "waning", according to a global thought leader who predicts a fall in remote working this year. Meanwhile Australian research shows employers are eager to increase office time.

In a recent Australasian Talent Conference presentation, ATC co-founder Kevin Wheeler said that only about 16% of companies in the world are fully remote, and that many more (44%) don't allow remote work.

Further, "more and more people are opting, even if they don't have to, to go back to the office", he says – if not every day, for at least part of the week. Attractions include collegial connection, a sense of community, and simply "leaving the house".

And Wheeler says he expects the proportion of employees who always want to work in an office will continue to rise, adding that many employers also want their people in the office more, not less...
