Pandemic pay turns spotlight on "insecure work"; Leave for "most vulnerable" extended

After the Federal Government reintroduced pandemic payments for casuals over the weekend, Employment Minister Tony Burke has stressed that this topic highlights why addressing "insecure work" is a key priority.

Casual employees are again entitled to apply for $750 pandemic leave disaster payments after the Labor Government brought forward a Cabinet meeting to address the topic. (The Government had previously ceased the payments as of 1 July.)

Speaking on ABC NewsRadio this morning, Burke said: "The last thing we want as these new [COVID] variants go through is for people not to be tested because they're in a situation where they would have... no livelihood...
