New HR entity proposed; Positive duty compliance guidelines

The Federal Government has introduced a bill to establish a "new specialist parliamentary human resources agency", to better deal with workplace misconduct.

Minister for Women Katy Gallagher says the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service Bill 2023 is the "first major tranche of legislative change" in response to former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins' 'set the standard' report.

Tabled in November 2021, the report found three in four (77%) people in parliamentary workplaces had experienced, witnessed, or heard about bullying, sexual harassment, and/or actual or attempted sexual abuse...
