Leaders uncomfortable with employees' flexpectations

The majority of leaders feel "pressured" and anxious about providing the level of flexibility employees now appear to expect, according to LinkedIn research.

Some 70% of business leaders say they feel pressured to offer greater flexibility, while just 38% feel optimistic about this new way of working, says LinkedIn ANZ country manager Matt Tindale.

"They feel pressured into it from employees, managers, general staff, and what's going on. You see things like 69% of job applicants are asking and requiring some form of flexibility before going ahead with job applications, so there's a real groundswell among people looking for jobs, moving jobs, and existing employees around a flexible work environment.

"While they're enthusiastic and optimistic about it, many are feeling anxious (25%). Some are feeling frustrated by it, about 23%, and there's some that are even just feeling annoyed (16%)."

There is a "general acceptance" of hybrid work among business leaders, Tindale says, adding that the "sweet spot" of flexibility is three-to-four days in the office and one-to-two days at home, according to 50% of leaders...
