Employer's response to violence, harassment was "seriously inadequate"

An employer exposed its workers to a risk of violence and inappropriate s-xual behaviour, a court has found, and a regulator is urging all organisations to take "proactive, preventative action" to protect their staff.

Workplace violence and sexual harassment affects workers across all industries, SafeWork NSW said, and employers can take a number of steps to prevent and mitigate this hazard, including consulting with workers to develop relevant policies and procedures.

Employers can also regularly assess work design and environment risks that contribute to workplace violence and sexual harassment, such as working at night, alone and in remote or isolated settings, and in client or home-visit-related work, it added.
