Employee not "entitled" to more flexibility than colleagues

An employee's flexible work arrangements placed an "unfair burden" on his colleagues, meaning it was open to his employer to limit his remote working to one day per week, a commission has ruled.

The Queensland Mental Health Commission business support officer submitted a flexible work application in April last year, requesting to work from home three or four days per week so he could care for his parents.

The employer subsequently approved remote work for two days per week for three months, transitioning to one day for the following three months, and then returning to the office full time after that.

This initial arrangement was extended to the end of the year, however, to allow the employee to organise necessary support for his parents...
