"Corporate failure" to blame for "shocking" harassment findings

S-xual harassment remains prevalent across the mining and resources industry and is perpetuated by poor workplace cultures, power imbalances and gender inequality, an inquiry has found.

The Western Australian inquiry into sexual harassment against women in the FIFO mining industry, tabled today, has found the industry embodies "all the main risks to sexual harassment", and that women frequently have to deal with the issue.

Cultural aspects, for example, include "the way we do things here" mindsets, which permit behaviour that wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere, and "rife" alcohol misuse, the inquiry panel says...
