Colliding discrimination laws a "pain point"; Loopholes Bill "confusing"

The "sheer volume of anti-discrimination legislation" is creating a pain point for employers trying to stay across their obligations, according to Ai Group's director of workplace relations policy.

Speaking at this year's Ron McCallum debate, which delved into recent and upcoming industrial relations reforms, workplace diversity, and the "universal fair go", Nicola Street said that instead of increasing protections "in a piecemeal way", the Federal Government should consider consolidating the laws while continuing to offer the same level of protections and obligations.

Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke said that the Government is currently "in an argument right now that is really at its core, 'should we continue to get wages moving or not?'", and noted that "as soon as Parliament can", it needs to "shut down" the loopholes that prevent this...
