HR professional fined $105k over "deceitful" underpayments scheme

An HR professional has been fined more than $100k, amid more than $4 million in penalties handed down after a "deliberate" scheme to deprive workers of their entitlements.

Federal Court Justice Anna Katzmann fined the former HR coordinator of DTF World Square, which operated the Din Tai Fung restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne, $105,084 for her involvement in numerous contraventions of the Fair Work Act.

DTF itself was fined $1,997,100 for its breaches, while associated company Selden Farlane Lachlan Investments was fined $1,896,300, and their joint general manager received $92,232 in penalties.

Justice Katzmann found the two companies, now in liquidation, deliberately underpaid 17 employees more than $157k between 2017 and 2018, although one worker was underpaid over a four-year period...
