Awards should provide 10 days' paid FDV leave: FWC

The Fair Work Commission has provisionally ruled that modern awards should provide employees with an entitlement to paid family and domestic vi-lence leave.

In a 266-page judgment delivered late today, the FWC full bench concluded that "the merits strongly favour a paid FDV leave entitlement".

"More needs to be done to prevent FDV and more needs to be done to address the consequences of such violence," the bench said.

"We accept that the introduction of paid FDV leave is not a panacea for the devastating effects of FDV; but it will provide a critical mechanism for employees to maintain their employment and financial security, while dealing with the effects of FDV...
