AI-based HR ecosystem saves time and boosts engagement: study

Artificial intelligence applications help HR manage the physical, digital and cultural workplace stimuli affecting the employee experience, thereby boosting engagement and productivity, but employers must involve staff in the design process, new research shows.

Newcastle University associate professor Ashish Malik, one of four academics who studied an employer's bespoke, multi-faceted, AI-assisted HR "ecosystem", says such systems can support a "seamless" employee experience (EX), if they are well designed.

The HR ecosystem he studied was developed and implemented in India, but Malik says the employer – a large multinational dubbed 'BigTech' to maintain confidentiality – also operates in Australia, and he considers the study's findings "highly relevant" to local employers.

In 2016, with help from employees, BigTech's HR and IT experts set about creating the system, aiming to capture continuous and real-time data on employees' "physical, human, and digital work environments"...
