Bullying report reveals low trust in complaints processes; and more

Low levels of bullying and harassment reporting in NSW parliamentary workplaces have "created a vacuum" in which unawareness and denial abound, a new report says.

Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick's 149-page report, released today, reveals bullying across NSW parliamentary workplaces has been "significant", "systemic" and "multi-directional".

Her investigation found 28% of workers have experienced bullying, but only 25% of them reported it. Of those workers, only a quarter (26%) had their complaint finalised, while a third (35%) were unsure of the outcome.

Sexual harassment and everyday sexism also occurred at "unacceptable rates", particularly for women, people who identified as having a diverse sexuality, and people aged between 24–35, the report says...
