Employer 'lacked insight' into psychological effects of workplace bullying

An employer has failed to prove that an injured employee's alleged incapacity for work was caused by his pre-existing mixed personality disorder, rather than "persistent and racist" workplace bullying.

In March 2018, the Alice Springs Hospital switchboard operator was certified unfit for work as a result of workplace bullying and harassment.

His employer, the Northern Territory of Australia, subsequently accepted his workers' compensation claim for a psychological injury.

It decided to cancel his payments about a year later, however, after a psychiatrist concluded the employee's "lengthy absence" from work was primarily due to his pre-existing mixed personality disorder, as opposed to workplace issues...
