Peer support helps alleviate new manager stress

New managers are feeling overwhelmed in their roles, but connections, rather than competencies, are largely to blame, according to a development specialist.

Ahead of launching learning and growth platform The Mintable, CEO and cofounder Lauren Humphrey interviewed 230 new managers and found three common themes among their biggest concerns.

The first is a competency and capability gap on soft skills; specifically, managers don't know how to give feedback "and they don't feel confident", says Humphrey.

Secondly, new managers are overwhelmed by the demands of balancing their old and new responsibilities, and thoughts of "I have this day job and I am an expert in my department and now you want me to share feedback – how am I meant to do that?"...
